Plantation shutters go inside, on hinged or sliding panels with adjustable blades you tilt for light and privacy. Roller shutters go outside, a solid aluminium curtain that rolls down over the glass for sun, noise and security. Interior for the look and the light control, exterior for heat and protection.
Are your shutters made in your own factory?
No, and it is worth being clear about that. The blinds we make ourselves are the roller, venetian and vertical blinds, in our factory here in Sydney. Shutters we measure, order to your sizes and colour, then install with our own fitters. The measuring and the fixing are the parts that decide whether a shutter job looks right.
What material should I choose for plantation shutters?
Timber gives the warmest finish and the thinnest frames, so it suits a lounge or a bedroom. A PVC or aluminium-reinforced shutter handles moisture, which is what you want in a bathroom or laundry. Wide openings often need a mid rail or a narrower blade so the panel does not start to sag over time.
Are the roller shutters you install motorised?
Every one of them. We only supply and install motorised roller shutters, run by remote, wall switch or app. A motor gives you even travel across a wide opening, nothing punched through the window frame, and the option to group several shutters onto one control. We do not fit winder-operated shutters.
Do shutters help with heat and noise?
External roller shutters do the most, because they stop the sun before it reaches the glass and add a layer between the street and your window. Interior plantation shutters help with glare and give you fine control over light, and they take some edge off noise. If heat is the problem, work on the outside first.
