Real blockout, not just a dark fabric
A lot of what gets sold as blockout is a dark coloured fabric with a coating on the back. It cuts the glare and still lets plenty of light through around the edges. Proper blockout fabric is opaque the whole way through, and the difference shows at five in the morning in summer.
We make our roller blinds in our own factory here in Sydney. The fabric is cut to your window rather than to the nearest standard size, and we can set the blind to run closer to the reveal so there is less gap down the sides.

Where blockout blinds earn their keep

Blockout fabric does two jobs at once. It takes a room dark enough to sleep in, and it holds a good deal of the heat at the glass instead of letting it into the room. West facing windows in a Sydney summer are where you notice it most.

Fabric chosen in your own light
Colours look different in a showroom to how they look in your lounge room. We bring the range to you, and you choose against your own walls, your own floors and the light that room actually gets.
Cut to your window, not to a standard size
Because we make them, the blind is cut to your measurement instead of rounded to the nearest standard width. That means narrower gaps down the sides, and a better result in an out of square reveal, which most older Sydney homes have.
Motorised if you want it
Blockout blinds get used every day, and in a bedroom that often means reaching over the bed. Motors are fitted at the time of manufacture and run from a remote, a wall switch or your phone.
What to decide before you order
Fabric. Blockout comes in different weights and textures. Heavier fabrics hang better on a wide window.
Mount. Inside the reveal looks neater. Outside the reveal blocks more light, because the blind can overlap the frame.
Roll direction. A standard roll sits the fabric closer to the glass. A reverse roll clears a deep sill or a window handle.
Chain or motor. Either is fine on a small window. On anything wide or high, or over a bed, a motor is worth it.

Common questions
Do blockout roller blinds block out all the light?
The fabric itself blocks close to all of it. What you notice is the light gap down each side of the blind and the space above the roll. A reveal fit leaves a small gap, and a face fit with a wider blind and a pelmet cuts it right back. In a bedroom we usually recommend face fitting with a cassette or pelmet.
Which is better in a bedroom, a blockout roller blind or curtains?
Blinds sit tight to the glass and are easier to live with in a small bedroom. Curtains cover the whole window opening, so they handle light gaps better and soften noise. Plenty of our Sydney jobs use both, a blockout roller behind a sheer curtain. If the room is for a baby or a shift worker, we lean towards the blind plus a pelmet.
Will a blockout blind keep a west-facing room cooler?
It helps, because the fabric stops direct sun hitting the glass and the floor. Most of the heat still comes through the window itself, so the room warms up slower rather than staying cool. Pairing a blockout roller with an outdoor blind or an awning over the same window makes a much bigger difference on a hot Sydney afternoon.
Are your blockout roller blinds made in Australia?
Yes. We make every roller blind in our own factory here in Sydney, so they are 100% Australian made. We cut the fabric and assemble the tube, brackets and bottom rail to your exact measurements rather than ordering a stock size in. Most window covering shops are retailers who buy finished blinds from a wholesaler.
Can blockout roller blinds be made child safe?
Yes. Chain-operated blinds are fitted with a tensioner screwed into the wall or architrave so the chain cannot form a loop. The safest option in a child’s room is a motor, because there is no chain at all. We check chain and cord clearance on every install and talk it through with you before we drill anything.
