Kirrawee has changed a lot. There are apartments and townhouses that did not exist a few years ago, and older fibro and brick homes being pulled apart and put back together. We fit blinds in both. Our roller blinds come out of our own factory in Sydney, 100 per cent Australian made, built to the size we took off your window.
The rest of the range is here as well. Roman blinds, verticals, timber and aluminium venetians, plantation shutters, motorised roller shutters, sheer and blockout curtains in S-fold or pinch pleat, and folding arm awnings. Steve measures it himself, and there is no charge for the measure or the quote.
The apartments on the old brick pit site brought a lot of work to Kirrawee, and they come with their own quirks. Glass to the ceiling onto a balcony, sliders with next to no reveal, and a strata schedule covering what the blind looks like from the street. We face fix or ceiling fix in those, keep the backing to the colour the building specifies, and use a slim cassette so the head clears the curtain track.
The older part of Kirrawee is a different job again. Fibro and brick homes off Flora Street and around Oak Road, half of them mid renovation, with original timber framed windows in one room and new aluminium in the next. Timber venetians and Roman blinds sit well in those old reveals. Where the back has been opened up, the west facing glass towards the highway side gets hot from mid afternoon.
Our roller blinds are made in our own factory in Sydney, 100 per cent Australian made. Much of the industry works the other way around, buying finished blinds in from a wholesaler and adding a margin. When your unit has three windows the same width and a fourth that is 15mm narrower, made to order is the difference between four neat blinds and four that nearly fit.
Steve measures, our factory builds it, and it is installed by people who know what was ordered and why. Chain side, roll direction, bracket type and light gap all get decided standing at your window. Child safe chain tensioners are fitted where they are needed, which matters in a townhouse with kids on two levels.
We do not run a shop in Kirrawee. We come to your unit or your house, which is the only sensible way to do it. A blockout that looks charcoal in a sample book can read navy on a south facing wall, and reveal depth is something you have to put a tape on. We bring everything to you, measure up, and leave a written quote with nothing hidden in it.
Kirrawee is a short run from most of where we work. Sutherland, Jannali, Loftus and Gymea are next door, and we head out to Miranda, Kareela, Caringbah and Yowie Bay, then south to Como, Oyster Bay, Bonnet Bay, Woronora and Engadine. Apartment, townhouse, fibro cottage or new build, it is the same job done properly. Common questions
Do you do the new apartments in Kirrawee?
Yes, plenty of them. The blocks on the old brick pit site are aluminium sliders with square set or very shallow reveals, plus a colour schedule for anything the street sees. We measure inside the unit, work out whether the blind sits in the reveal or on the ceiling line, and book the install in with building management.
The balcony slider has almost no reveal. Where does the blind go?
On the wall or the ceiling above it, in most units. A square set opening leaves nothing to screw a bracket into inside the reveal, so we fix above the head and run the blind wider than the glass. That covers the light gap and lets the slider and the flyscreen move without catching the fabric or the bottom rail.
Our strata has a colour schedule. Does that limit my choice?
Only on the side that faces out. The schedule usually names the backing colour, a white or an off white, so the building reads evenly from the street. Inside is your call. On a double blind it is the back roller the street sees, so that is the one the schedule applies to. Send us the by-law wording and we will match it.
We are renovating an older fibro place. When should you measure?
Once the new windows are in and the architraves are fixed, ideally before the painter finishes. Old openings in fibro and brick homes rarely match the new frames, so measuring off the plan leaves you with a blind that is short. Give us a week or two of notice and we will time the install around your other trades.
Do timber venetians suit the older houses around here?
They look right in an old timber reveal, especially with painted architraves and a deeper sill. Timber slats are wider than aluminium and hold their shape, and tilting them keeps the light while blocking the neighbour’s window. Watch the depth. A 50mm slat needs room to stack at the top, so a shallow reveal means a face fit.
